Sketch Book Shiz

I'm trying to push shape and character more in my observational sketches these days with the hopes that it will translate over to my character designs. I've had some really good servings of humble pie lately and it has opened my eyes to just how boring my work has become. I hope my posts from now on will have a lot more story, character, and that when people look at them they'll at least think that I had fun drawing them. Repentance begins now.

Salon de Estefan

Here's a quick environment piece I did for one of our Animation Senior Films called Estefan! The character design was done by our very talented Scott Gwynn! I'm excited to to do more for this project in the future!

Giant

Well I'm done with this. I realize that I should have done many more explorative rough thumbnails to find more appealing shapes in the design and to discover the character's personality better. I learned a lot from doing this piece about what to do and what not to do when approaching a character design. Round 2 will be more promising no painting or fancy drawings until the foundation of the design is well established in rough form.

Craig Mullin 1 Hour Speed Painting

So I'm going to be posting one of these speed paintings everyday to show Bob Barret. Hopefully I take something from all of this.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star etc.

Commissioned pencil portraits of the Beetles and my first speed painting for Bob Barret's directed studies class. I have to do one of these every day for the semester to get full credit. Yikes!

Moving On!

I showed this piece to Jason Kim and he gave me some really good advice on how to add more life and color to it. And some compositional advice from Dave Mcclellan. Those guys know their stuff!

More Dracula Explorations

Some early Explorations on Dracula. After talking with Jake Parker I have a much better idea where to take the style and design for future explorations
